Limassol, Cyprus — March 2026
The Grammar School Limassol marked a milestone moment in its history with “50 – Golden Celebration,” a spectacular musical production commemorating the school’s 50th anniversary. Presented at the Pattichio Municipal Theatre on March 16 and 17, the production brought together generations of performers in a deeply emotional and artistically ambitious celebration of the institution’s cultural legacy.
"For the first time, a full live orchestra accompanied the performance"

At the heart of the music of the production stood distinguished alumnus Aris Antoniades, who returned to his alma mater not only as conductor, but as the creative force behind the evening’s musical identity. Leading a specially assembled ensemble of his TrakArt Pops Orchestra, Antoniades also crafted all orchestrations for the production—bringing a level of musical sophistication and cohesion rarely seen in school productions.
For the first time in the history of the Grammar School’s annual shows, a full live orchestra accompanied the performance. This landmark addition elevated the production into a fully immersive theatrical experience, allowing the repertoire—ranging from classic musical theatre staples to contemporary selections—to be presented with richness, nuance, and cinematic scope.

The orchestra featured a distinguished lineup of musicians: Antonis Polycarpou (piano), Giorgos Hadjigeorgiou (violin), Konstantinos Makaritis (flute/piccolo), Giannis Koudounas (trumpet), Vyronas Athinodorou (guitars/euphonium), Nicolas Tryphonos (bass), and Soteris Yiatrou (drums), under Antoniades’ direction.
Opening the evening was Antoniades’ original composition “Home,” written especially for the occasion. The piece immediately resonated with audiences, quickly becoming an emotional anchor of the production. With its themes of belonging, memory, and identity, “Home” captured the essence of the Grammar School experience and was embraced warmly by students, alumni, and the wider community alike.
The significance of the performance was further deepened by its dedication to the memory of the school’s legendary principal, Mr. Michael Azas, who served the institution for 43 years. Widely regarded as a central figure in shaping the school’s identity, Mr. Azas embodied the very spirit of “home” that the production sought to celebrate. His recent passing cast a poignant tone over the performances, transforming the event into both a celebration and a tribute.

Directed by the school's beloved music teacher, Cleopatra Papa Kyprianou, the production successfully united current students with alumni performers—many of whom returned to the stage as singers, actors, and dancers. Among the standout alumni was tenor Andreas Aroditis, whose presence added both artistic weight and symbolic continuity to the evening.
Aris remarked that, "Cleopatra's dedication and hard work over many years have created a strong brand for the school, establishing it as a leader in school musical theater productions in Cyprus."
The production team played a vital role in bringing the vision to life. Kyprianou’s direction was complemented by the work of choreographers (Celia Charalambous and Zoe Michelle Xanthou), vocal coaches (Athina Aletra), and production assistants (Martinos Perdikis and Maria Kouzi Aletrari), while internationally renowned set and lighting designer Ben M. Rogers transformed the stage into a visually striking environment that elevated the storytelling to a new level. Sound was designed by the show's sound engineer, Christos Demetriou.
"Both performances were completely sold out..."
Both performances were completely sold out, with audiences responding enthusiastically throughout. The evenings concluded with warm, sustained standing ovations—an unmistakable testament to the emotional impact and artistic success of the production. The atmosphere in the theatre was one of celebration, nostalgia, and collective pride, as generations of the Grammar School community came together to honor a shared past while looking toward the future.

Ultimately, “50 – Golden Celebration” was more than an anniversary event—it was a powerful statement about continuity, artistic excellence, and the enduring influence of education through the arts. Aris stated after the show that, "the production represented a full-circle moment: returning to the stage where my own journey began, and in doing so, inspiring a new generation to carry that legacy forward."
